2010 AAU Membership

The AAU competition year runs from September 1 through August 31

In order to participate in any AAU event that takes place from September 1, 2009 - August 31, 2010, a 2010 AAU Membership must be purchased. Click the "Join Now" button and register.

AAU Membership is required by Athletes, Coaches and Officials

to participate in all AAU sanctioned events.

Membership benefits include accident insurance (which is secondary and

applicable after any primary coverage) for all properly sanctioned

AAU events and supervised practices of member clubs.

My Child Wants to Play AAU Sports!
The My Child Wants To Play AAU Sports was developed to assist parents with finding a place for their child to play AAU Sports. AAU clubs do not report their tryout schedule to the GA AAU office. The AAU office is not allowed to give out personal information in accordance with the current privacy laws on record.

Purpose of the program

This program gives the parents an opportunity to have a coach contact them regarding their child's participation with their team, squad, school, club, dojo and others. The program is designed to keep the child's personal information confidential while using the parent as the contact person for communication purposes. This procedure ensures the integrity of the child's information. Click the 'My Child Wants To Play AAU Sports' tab to the left to find out more.

FINDING A CLUB OR TEAM FOR YOUR ATHLETE

AAU does not have any club - they only have club members. We are unable to give out confidential information on our club members such as emails or contact information, therefore, we are unable to assist you in locating a club or team with confidential contact information. But we can suggest the following. Check your local papers for clubs advertising tryouts. Ask your athlete to ask their class mates who they participate with in AAU events. Also you can go to the national web site, www.aausports.org. They have instituted a program "My child wants to play AAU Sports" by which you can register your child and you can list your information on a site where coaches can access your contact information if they are looking for athletes to participate in their program. Independent clubs join AAU in order to participate in AAU sanctioned events and to adequately insure their athletes, coaches and practice facilities. Each club sets its own policies regarding tryout, practice, fees, goals, etc. Some clubs host open tryouts, others are local teams that are hand picked by their local recreation groups, and some may not choose to have tryouts at all. AAU does not govern these clubs except when they are participating in AAU sanctioned events. Therefore, when looking for a club you should ask questions that would allow you to select a club that meets your own needs and expectations.

The Betty Lowe Memorial Scholarship Awards

Georgia AAU is proud to announce the establishment of four

$500 scholarships to be awarded each year to four high school graduates to be used for higher education.

2010 Scholarship Awards announced by Jane Williamson, chair of the scholarship committee, at the May 23 annual meeting.

The four Georgia District AAU Betty Lowe Memorial Scholarship Recipients are:

Stephon Sheldon-Gazelle Track Club-attending Wofford College

Justin Sims-Mark Trail Flying Eagles-attending University of Southern Mississippi

David Mathis-Southside Pioneer T&F-attending Norfolk State University in Virginia

Sierra Woodley-Track Phi Track Elite- attending Alabama a & M in Huntsville

Georgia AAU Receives A Commendation

The Commendation reads as follows:

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA

A COMMENDATION

WHEREAS: The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), opening a new season of competition on September 1, 2006, has served as one of the cornerstones of amateur athletic development in the United States. Since its founding as a grassroots organization in 1888, the AAU has sponsored tournaments and supported many different teams and players; and

WHEREAS: The AAU has grown since its inception to over 15,000 Georgia athletes and over 450 clubs in 20 different sports, promoting opportunities to compete for youths, adults, men and women; and

WHEREAS: The AAU has provided Georgia with strong athletic programs in many sports, offering those athletes participating, both young and old, an opportunity to experience the energy and vitality of sport competition; and

WHEREAS: The athletic competition fostered by the AAU facilitates the development of character in the youth of Georgia, teaching the values of discipline, hard work and fair play while priming them to become valuable members of our community; and

WHEREAS: The Georgia AAU, headed by Mr. James Henry, is embarking on another year of competition aimed at keeping the opportunity to experience sport and all its accompanying enrichment alive; now

THEREFORE: I, SONNY PERDUE, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby commend the

AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION
