reads as follows:
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE
OF GEORGIA
A COMMENDATION
WHEREAS:
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), opening a new season of
competition on September 1, 2006, has served as one of the
cornerstones of amateur athletic development in the United States.
Since its founding as a grassroots organization in 1888, the AAU has
sponsored tournaments and supported many different teams and
players; and
WHEREAS:
The AAU has grown since its inception to over 15,000 Georgia
athletes and over 450 clubs in 20 different sports, promoting
opportunities to compete for youths, adults, men and women; and
WHEREAS:
The AAU has provided Georgia with strong athletic programs in many
sports, offering those athletes participating, both young and old,
an opportunity to experience the energy and vitality of sport
competition; and
WHEREAS:
The athletic competition fostered by the AAU facilitates the
development of character in the youth of Georgia, teaching the
values of discipline, hard work and fair play while priming them to
become valuable members of our community; and
WHEREAS:
The Georgia AAU, headed by Mr. James Henry, is embarking on another
year of competition aimed at keeping the opportunity to experience
sport and all its accompanying enrichment alive; now
THEREFORE:
I, SONNY PERDUE, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby commend
the
